The process: requirements, timeframes and costs

Arranging a mortgage takes about 30 days plus 15 days for the loan & mortgage documents to be couriered overseas for you to be executed and back. A pre-approval can be obtained within 2-3 days. The entire process is completed via email, phone and fax. We generally do not charge a brokerage for arranging mortgages as banks pay us a commission. We disclose commissions and loan parameters on a finance broker agreement at the time of application.

The property purchase costs (stamp duty, legal fees, etc.) in Australia can be roughly estimated as 4-6% of the purchase price depending on the state (VIC, NSW, etc.) and property type/size. This excludes the mortgage insurance applicable in some cases, ranging from 1-3% of the loan amount as a once off expense.
